Vegan Sausage Rolls

These are the best tasting vegan sausage rolls

we’ve ever had from texture to taste.

They’re meaty, not dry and flavorful, resembling that of

traditional sausage rolls that I use to remember,

and the kids absolutely love them.

Meat eaters wouldn’t be able to tell their vegan!

Sausage Roll Filling Ingredients:

  • 1 cup walnuts

  • 1 red onion, peeled and roughly sliced

  • 2 Medium carrots, peeled and roughly chopped

  • 1 Medium Potato, peeled and roughly chopped

  • 3 Tbsp Tahini paste

  • 400 grams medium firm tofu, roughly broken up

  • 1/4 cup tomato paste

  • 1 tsp Vegan Beef Seasoning

  • 2 Tbsp onion powder

  • 2 Tbsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 cup nutrition yeast

  • 1 teaspoon pepper (optional)

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 1 Cup Quick or Rolled oats

  • 3/4 Cup Gluten flour

For Rolling:

  • 6 x sheets vegan puff pastry (I use borgs)

  • 1/4 x cup sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 190 degrees Celsius

  2. Place walnuts in food processor and process until slightly chunky.  Pour into a large mixing bowl.

  3. To the food processor add the peeled carrots, potato and onion. Process until fairly diced. Pour mixture into the bowl of walnuts.

  4. To the food processor add all remaining ingredients except Oats and Gluten flour. Process until fairly minced but not smooth. Add this mixture to the bowl of walnuts and vegetable mix.

  5. Now add oats and mix with hands until well combined.

  6. Now add in gluten flour and mix well with hands again, continue to mix and kneed for another 2 minutes. The mixture should be slightly firm but not sticky and you should be able to roll it out with your hands cleanly.

  7. Take a square sheet of puff pastry and cut in half.

  8. Take a handful of filling mixture and roll with your hands into a log and place onto the pastry sheet, then wrap the pastry sheet tightly making sure you have about 1.5cm of over lapping pastry. Turn pastry over so that the overlapping pastry side is facing downwards.

  9. Cut the pastry roll into 3 pieces, score 2 diagonal lines on each of the pieces of rolls and sprinkle with sesame seed (if desired).

  10. Place on a lined baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes or until golden brown. You will make about 12 small sausage rolls and will use about 3 trays. When baking you will need to rotate the trays in the oven from bottom to top after 15mins of baking to ensure even cooking.

  11. Serve with tomato sauce and garden salad on the side. Super Delicious!
