Why Elijah Must Come

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers,
lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”
—Malachi 4:5–6

The promise of Elijah’s return carries urgent significance today. Of all generations, we stand closest to the great and dreadful day of the Lord—Christ’s second coming. But why Elijah? Why must he return before the final crisis?

The answer is in the mission: “to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.” Understanding this calling helps identify what Elijah must do today—and who Elijah is.

The Historical Context of Elijah’s Mission
In the days of King Ahab, Israel had fallen deep into apostasy (1 Kings 16:29–33). Ahab married Jezebel, a pagan woman who worshiped Baal. Under her influence, he led Israel to forsake the true God and embrace idolatry. Baal worship was not merely false—it redefined the character of God, blending paganism with the religion of Israel.

This was not just rebellion. It was corruption of the true worship of Jehovah, taking the people’s hearts away from the covenant God of their fathers.

Elijah’s calling was not to reform society through popularity or consensus. It was to confront the nation’s leaders, call out idolatry, and restore the knowledge of the true God. His mission was to turn hearts back to the Father (1 Kings 18:37).

A Parallel for Today
The crisis in Elijah’s time is repeating itself. Just as ancient Israel was deceived into worshiping Baal, modern Christianity has adopted a false concept of God—the doctrine of the Trinity, a three-in-one philosophical being not found in the teachings of Christ or the apostles.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.”
—Deuteronomy 6:4
“The Lord our God is one Lord.” —Mark 12:29

The Trinity, introduced into Christianity by the Papacy, replaced the worship of the one true God with a mystical triune deity. This is the same system that changed God's day of worship from the seventh day to the first. Both changes—God and His Sabbath—are rooted in tradition, not Scripture.

“The leaders of this people cause them to err.” (Isaiah 9:16)

Most church leaders today have followed the example of Ahab. They have aligned with spiritual Jezebel—the Roman Catholic Church—and adopted her god. The god they now proclaim is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but a philosophical construct shaped by centuries of apostate theology.

Who Is Elijah Today?
Malachi 4 says God will send Elijah again—not as the literal prophet, but in a movement or people who carry the same spirit and message.

“He shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah.” —Luke 1:17

John the Baptist fulfilled this in the first advent. But before the final crisis, God will raise up a people with the Elijah message again—a message that boldly calls people out of spiritual confusion and back to the worship of the one true God.

That Elijah message is a call to:

- Expose false worship and religious corruption
- Restore the knowledge of the true God—the Father, and His only-begotten Son
- Reject man-made traditions and return to the pure faith of the fathers
- Stand boldly for truth, even when alone

The Elijah Work Is Now
The Elijah message is not optional—it is God’s final call to a world drowning in religious deception. That work will not be led by church institutions aligned with Babylon, but by those who are willing to stand alone, as Elijah did, to proclaim the truth.

Like Elijah, this work may cost comfort, reputation, and even relationships. It may require hiding by brooks, facing kings, or standing alone on Mount Carmel. But the truth about who God is, and how He is to be worshiped, cannot be silenced.

Conclusion: God Is Looking for Elijahs
“Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show My people their transgression.” —Isaiah 58:1

Elijah is not a single man. Elijah is a people, a prophetic movement raised up before the final judgment. God is looking for those who will call His children back to the Father—back to the worship of the one true God and His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

The Elijah message must go forward—uncompromising, urgent, and clear. The god of Babylon is not the God of heaven. The Trinity is idolatry. The world must hear again:

“The Lord our God is one Lord.” (Mark 12:29)

Will you be Elijah today?
