Jesus Christ: Truly Divine and Truly Human
One of the greatest truths of the gospel is that Jesus Christ has two natures: He is truly divine and truly human. He is the only begotten Son of God, sharing His Father’s divine nature, yet He also became a real man in order to reveal the Father, redeem humanity, and show us how to live by faith and obedience.
John wrote:
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
— John 1:14
This is the mystery of godliness: the divine Son of God came in human flesh.
🌿 1. Jesus Is Truly Divine
Before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, He already existed as the divine Son of God. He was not a created being, prophet, apostle, or angel. He was the Word who was with God and who possessed the nature of God.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
— John 1:1
“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
— John 1:3
“Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person...”
— Hebrews 1:3
Jesus is not the Father, but He shares the Father’s divine life, glory, holiness, and character. As the only begotten Son, He came from the Father and perfectly reveals Him.
This is why Jesus can rightly be worshiped. Worship belongs to a divine Being, not to created beings. Angels refuse worship. Apostles refuse worship. But Jesus accepted worship because He is not a creature; He is the divine Son of God, possessing His Father’s nature.
The Father Himself says of the Son:
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.”
— Hebrews 1:8
And again:
“Let all the angels of God worship Him.”
— Hebrews 1:6
Therefore, worshiping Jesus does not make Him a rival God beside the Father. Rather, it honors the divine Son who shares the Father’s nature and carries the Father’s authority.
🌎 2. Jesus Truly Became Man
The same divine Son of God truly became human. He did not merely appear to be a man; He actually took part in our flesh and blood.
“He was manifested in the flesh...”
— 1 Timothy 3:16
“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same.”
— Hebrews 2:14
Jesus became hungry, thirsty, tired, sorrowful, tempted, and tried. He lived in this world as a real man, yet without sin.
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
— Hebrews 4:15
Christ’s humanity was real. He came close to us, entered our weakness, and walked the path of human life so that He could become our faithful High Priest.
🔥 3. The Two Natures Were United in One Person
In Christ, divinity and humanity were united in one Person. His divine nature did not become human, and His human nature did not become divine. Rather, both natures were joined together in the one Person of Jesus Christ.
He was not half God and half man. He was truly divine and truly human.
As divine, He could reveal God, create, forgive, redeem, give life, and receive worship. As human, He could represent us, suffer with us, be tempted like us, obey as our example, and die for our sins.
Paul described this mystery when he wrote:
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
He who was manifested in the flesh...”
— 1 Timothy 3:16
This union of divinity and humanity makes Christ the perfect Mediator between God and man:
“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”
— 1 Timothy 2:5
✨ 4. Jesus Revealed the Father
Jesus came not only to save mankind, but also to reveal the Father’s character.
“No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son... He has declared Him.”
— John 1:18
Jesus said:
“He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
— John 14:9
And again:
“The Father who dwells in Me does the works.”
— John 14:10
Christ came from the Father, bearing His Father’s name, authority, character, and presence. In Jesus, mankind could see what the Father is truly like.
The Father did not send someone unlike Himself. He sent His own Son, the express image of His person, to reveal His love, mercy, holiness, justice, and truth.
💧 5. Jesus Had Divine Life from the Father
Jesus possessed divine life, not as an independent rival to the Father, but as the Son to whom the Father gave life in Himself.
Jesus said:
“For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself.”
— John 5:26
This divine life is not inherent in ordinary humanity. Human beings receive life from God and depend on Him for every breath. But Christ, as the divine Son of God, possessed life in Himself by the Father’s gift and authority.
This is another reason why Jesus is able to save and give eternal life:
“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
— John 1:4
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.”
— John 10:28
🙏 6. Jesus Did Nothing Independently From His Father
Although Jesus was divine, He never acted independently from the Father. His whole life was one of perfect surrender and obedience.
Jesus said:
“The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do.”
— John 5:19
And again:
“I can of Myself do nothing... because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.”
— John 5:30
Jesus also said:
“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”
— John 6:38
The Son lived in perfect unity with the Father. He never acted apart from the Father’s will. His life was the perfect revelation of dependence, obedience, and love.
💪 7. Jesus Overcame as Our Example
Jesus came not only to die for us, but also to show us how humanity can live in complete dependence upon God.
He did not use His divine power selfishly to make His life easy or avoid temptation. He lived by faith, prayer, obedience, and surrender to His Father.
Jesus said:
“I always do those things that please Him.”
— John 8:29
He overcame temptation, not by self-will, but by trusting His Father and obeying His Word.
When Satan tempted Him, Jesus answered:
“It is written...”
— Matthew 4:4
Christ’s victory shows us that human beings can overcome only when they are united with divine power. Apart from God we can do nothing, but through Christ we can be strengthened to obey.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
— Philippians 4:13
👑 8. All Power Was Given to Christ for Us
After His resurrection, Jesus said:
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
— Matthew 28:18
This authority was given to Him by the Father. Jesus is the appointed Lord, King, Mediator, High Priest, and Redeemer.
Because He became man, He is our Brother and representative. Because He is divine, He has power to save completely.
“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him.”
— Hebrews 7:25
Christ’s power is not distant from us. He gives grace, strength, victory, forgiveness, and eternal life to all who come to Him by faith.
✝️ 9. Why Both Natures Matter
If Jesus were only human, He could not be our divine Savior. If He were only divine and never truly became human, He could not fully represent mankind.
But because He is both divine and human, He is the perfect Savior.
As divine, He reveals the Father, creates all things, gives life, forgives sins, receives worship, and conquers death.
As human, He understands our weakness, suffered temptation, lived by faith, obeyed the Father, and died in our place.
Hebrews says:
“Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest...”
— Hebrews 2:17
And again:
“For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.”
— Hebrews 2:18
His divinity connects us with God. His humanity connects Him with us. In Christ, heaven and earth meet.
🌟 Conclusion
Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God in human flesh.
He is truly divine, sharing the Father’s nature, glory, life, and creative power. He is also truly human, having taken our flesh and blood, entered our weakness, suffered our temptations, and died for our sins.
• Because He has God’s nature, He is worthy of worship. Because He became man, He is able to represent us.
•Because He is both divine and human, He is the perfect Mediator, Savior, High Priest, and Lord.
We do not worship Jesus as a rival to the Father, but as the divine Son whom the Father has sent, exalted, and commanded all to honor.
“That all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father.”
— John 5:23
Therefore, we may come to Him with confidence. He understands our struggles, He has power to save, and He leads us back to the Father.
