Psalm 67

Psalm 67 is a prayer of blessing, asking God to show His favor to His people so that His ways may be known throughout the earth. The psalm reflects a deep desire for God's presence and blessings, not only for Israel but for all nations. It highlights the universal nature of God’s salvation and the joy that comes when people acknowledge His rule.

Psalm 67:1-2 (NKJV)
1 God be merciful to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us. Selah
2 That Your way may be known on earth,
Your salvation among all nations.

The psalm begins with a plea for God’s mercy and blessing, echoing the priestly blessing from Numbers 6:24-26. The request for God’s face to shine signifies favor and grace. This blessing is not sought merely for personal gain but so that God’s ways and salvation may be known by all people across the world.

Psalm 67:3-4 (NKJV)
3 Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
4 Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy!
For You shall judge the people righteously,
And govern the nations on earth. Selah

The psalmist expresses a longing for all nations to recognize God and respond with praise. It is a call for global worship, emphasizing that the joy of the nations lies in God’s righteous rule. His just governance provides security and fairness, inspiring both gladness and worship among all peoples.

Psalm 67:5-6 (NKJV)
5 Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
6 Then the earth shall yield her increase;
God, our own God, shall bless us.

The repetition of the call for universal praise emphasizes the psalmist’s vision of a world united in worship. When people acknowledge God, the earth is blessed and becomes fruitful. This reflects a spiritual truth: God’s blessings are abundant when people walk in alignment with Him, and His favor brings both spiritual and material prosperity.

Psalm 67:7 (NKJV)
7 God shall bless us,
And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

The psalm concludes with a confident declaration that God’s blessings will continue. As a result of these blessings, all people will come to fear and revere Him. The fear of God here signifies awe, respect, and submission to His authority, leading to a world where people recognize and worship the one true God.
