Psalm 134

Psalm 134 is a short chapter, known as one of the "Songs of Ascents." It is a call to worship and bless the Lord, particularly directed at the priests or servants of the temple who minister by night. This psalm serves as a reminder to all God's people to praise Him, recognizing His sovereignty and power over heaven and earth.

Psalm 134:1 (NKJV)
1 Behold, bless the Lord, All you servants of the Lord, Who by night stand in the house of the Lord!

The psalm opens with a call to bless the Lord. It specifically addresses the temple servants who perform their duties during the night. These servants, likely priests or Levites, maintained the temple services at all times, ensuring constant praise to God. The verse invites them, as representatives of the people, to lift up God’s name in worship, acknowledging His greatness and faithfulness.

Psalm 134:2 (NKJV)
2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, And bless the Lord.

This verse encourages an active form of worship, instructing the servants of the temple to lift their hands in the sanctuary. Lifting hands is a physical expression of prayer, surrender, and praise to God. It symbolizes a connection between heaven and earth, inviting the worshipers to engage wholeheartedly in blessing and honoring the Lord, showing reverence in their service.

Psalm 134:3 (NKJV)
3 The Lord who made heaven and earth Bless you from Zion!

The chapter concludes with a reciprocal blessing from the Lord. The God who created the heavens and the earth is the source of all blessings, and this verse expresses the hope that He will bless the worshipers from Zion, the location of the temple. It emphasizes God's power as Creator and His special relationship with His people, reminding them that true blessings come from Him alone.
